Under the U.S. proposal, Israel would withdraw from Gaza population centers and Hamas would free hostels.
On Sunday, the United States asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to vote on the final version of its draft resolution to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza with the release of hostages. The vote is expected to occur later on Monday, although the UNSC meeting has not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for the U.S, delegation to the United Nations asked the UNSC to ask the Palestinian Resistance Movement (Hamas) to support Washington’s proposal given that Israel has already agreed to do so.
For a week, the U.S. resolution was circulating among UNSC members. While it initially contained demands only directed at Hamas, it now urges both sides to implement the terms of the proposal without delay or conditions.
“Under the proposal, Israel would withdraw from Gaza population centers and Hamas would free hostels. The ceasefire would last an initial six weeks, with it extended as negotiators seek a permanent end to hostilities,” Al Arabiya outlet reported.
The final text includes an unequivocal “rejection of any attempt at territorial or demographic modification in Gaza, including any action to reduce the territory.” Apparently, this would be a message aimed at the ‘hard wing’ of the Israeli Government and that could receive support among Arab countries.
In its last paragraph, the US resolution reiterates “the importance of unifying Gaza and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority”, which implicitly means leaving out Hamas, one of the most controversial points given the unpopularity of the Palestinian Authority among the Palestinians of Gaza. .
For a resolution to be approved in the United Nations Security Council, it must receive at least 9 out of 15 votes and not be vetoed by any of the permanent members.
